Pastor Barry Writes

Hope In Christ

For we were saved in hope.  Now, hope that is seen is not hope.  For who hopes for what is seen?  But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

            – Romans 8:24-25

As Christians, we hope for things not yet seen.  We look forward to the promise of a new day.  Hope, though, can be hard to hold onto.  In this season of Lent, what are you hoping for?  Who do you hope in?

I hope for a better future.  These days are full of difficulty.  I hope we will work together for equity and justice for all people.  I hope for an end to senseless gun violence and war in Ukraine.

In chaotic times, our relationship with God tends to suffer:  our vision for a new way of doing things gets clouded.  In those moments, I look to nature: Sunrises.  Sunsets.  March wind.  Moon and stars.  This reminds me of God’s astonishing glory and gives me a glimpse of eternity.

When we Hope in God, Christ is present.  He invites us to share in God’s glory.  This fourth week in Lent, I pray that you do just that.  May you know God’s presence in nature, and hope for a better world.

Lord, the hope you give us is greater than what we can imagine.  Fill us with your hope and joy.  In Christ’s name, we pray.  Amen.

God loves you, and I love you!

Food Drive

We will be hosting a Food Drive at the church on Friday, April 1st, from 4:30-6:00 p.m.  Some suggested items include:  non-perishables—canned food, especially vegetables and meats; baby foods, cereals.  Also personal items: toothbrush, small toothpaste, feminine hygiene products.

Sunday School

Children ages 3-10 are welcome to join our monthly Sunday School!  It will be held on the first Sunday of each month during worship, through June.  The next class will be Sunday, April 3rd.

Church Growth Team

We are Inviting Church Growth: New prayer cards. “Faith and Life” discussion times. Children’s Sunday School.  A “What’s Happening” white board in the Narthex.  Reaching out to members who’ve stopped worshiping.  These are some of the ideas our Church Growth Team is implementing.  We’re looking forward to more ideas that we hope will bring more worshipers to know our very special Beemerville Church family.   How can we be more visible in our community?   Tell Pastor Barry.  Share your ideas, and invite your family and friends to worship!

Birthday List

If you haven’t already done so, please submit your birthday (month & day) to the church office so we can add you to our Birthday Card List!  Thank You!

Please check your e-mail on Saturday evenings when weather is questionable to see whether or not worship has been cancelled.

Worship News

Even though we are worshiping in church, we will continue to have online worship also for those who cannot join us in person.

We ask that you tell Pastor Barry or our Deacons about anyone feeling especially isolated and in need of support.  This is a time when the church (all of us) can do a great deal of good by helping each other and staying connected.  We are here for just such a time as this.

Please keep joining us to worship on Sundays at 9 a.m. on Facebook Live or on Youtube.com/beemervillepresbyterian on Sunday afternoon if you are not coming back to church in person.  We are also emailing the bulletin with our weekly newsletter so you can follow the service.

COVID Update

The CDC recommends that people may choose to mask at any time indoors or in large crowds.  People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask.

Our Presbytery’s recommendations are the same as CDC.  Beemerville Presbyterian Church does not require masks, but we ask that you continue to act in a safe and prudent manner for all of our church family.  Please encourage and support all vaccination efforts!  The way out of the pandemic is to create an environment where the virus cannot find a host or adapt.

2022 Calendars Are Here!!

Please don’t forget to pick up your 2022 calendar in the Narthex or Fellowship Hall.  Take extras for family or friends!  Each year, Pinkel Funeral Home donates them to us.  Thank you, Horvath family!

“These Days” Devotions – New Issue

We have devotional booklets for daily use called These Days.  They are highly recommended.   We receive them four times a year.  Please let Pastor Barry or the church office know if you would like a copy, and we’ll send it to you!

Newsletter Information

If you would like to submit information for the weekly newsletter, please have it in to the church office by the Sunday before the Wednesday it goes out.  In case of last-minute items, please submit them by Wednesday morning.  Thank you!

Deacons’ Sunday

The first Sunday of every month has been designated Deacons’ Sunday.  Please contribute.  Donations may be placed either in the offering basket or in the basket on the table in the narthex.

Tithing

We thank you for continuing to send in your tithes and donations!  Our church family and friends have stepped up and supported the church.  For that we are truly thankful!  Checks should be made payable to Beemerville Presbyterian Church, with Weekly Offering on the memo line.  These can be sent by mail to our Treasurer, Ruth Bootsma, 67 Decker Road, Sussex, NJ  07461.  Most checking accounts also have a “bill pay” option that you can set up so your bank sends the church your donation.

2022 Per Capita

The Per Capita per member for 2022 is $40.00.  This is used to support the vital ministries of the larger church.  Our church has to pay this amount for each member.  We are asking you to repay the church to cover your share.  Please send your Per Capita offering to our Church Treasurer.  Please put Per Capita 2022 on the memo line.  Thank you!
